1. Batman [4K UHD] (1989)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After 30 years, I continue to love Batman. No, it doesn’t have the same hold over me it maintained when it first appeared, but I continue to be very fond of it. Starring Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson. Warner, $41.99, 6/4/2019.

2. The Shining [4K UHD] (1980)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Despite some nostalgic fondness for The Shining, it currently does not stand as one of my favorite Kubrick films. The movie has its moments and can generate the appropriate scares at times, but overall, I think it lacks the flair and drama I expect from Kubrick. Starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall. Warner, $41.99, 10/1/2019.

4. The Shining: Special Edition (1980)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Should fans who own the 2001 release of The Shining give this special edition a “double-dip”? Yes, I think so. It doesn’t necessarily improve the quality of the film’s picture, but it does give us the film in its correct aspect ratio for the first time. It also adds some good extras. This ends up as a fine DVD. Starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall. Wa

5. Batman: Special Edition (1989)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I definitely recommend this new 2-DVD release for all folks with an interest in Batman. It greatly improves upon the picture quality of the old disc, and it adds a surfeit of great supplements. It’s a fine re-release that’s well worth the money. Starring Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson. 6. The King Of Marvin Gardens: America Lost and Found - The BBS Story (Criterion Collection) [Blu-R
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I didn't dislike The King Of Marvin Gardens but I thought it was a fairly bland and pointless character piece. The Blu-ray provides pretty good picture, average sound and a few interesting supplements. While there are worse films you could see, I think this one's for die-hard Nicholson fans only. Starring Jack Nicholson, Bruce Dern. Criterion, $124.95, 1

8. Batman [Blu-Ray] (1989)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I thought this Blu-ray offered the best home video incarnation of Batman, but I can’t say it blew away the 2005 Special Edition DVD. Oh, it certainly provided superior visuals, as I found myself impressed with all the details I’d not previously noticed in the film. However, audio remained the same, and the supplements were nearly identical; the Blu-ray a

9. The Shining (1980)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: All in all, I view The Shining as a good but not exceptional film. It's a good thing that it ends strongly - it'd be a much bigger disappointment if the first half was strong but the second half bit - but I thought it simply tried too hard to provoke emotions that should have flowed effortlessly. Starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall. Warner, $24.98, 6

The Blu-ray offers fairly solid picture quality, average audio, and a consistently informative set of supplements. Criterion creates a fine release for a memorable film. Starring Jack N
